COWRIE NECKLACES

The centre of this choker-style necklace is formed from three closely woven strands of beautifully matched cowrie shells which probably came from Mauritania.

At either side, the necklace shrinks to a double row and finishes in a single shell catch. Like pearls, the shells become comfortingly warm with body heat.

Meryanne Loum-Martin owner of the beautiful Jnane Tamsna in Marrakech is wearing a similar necklace.
