ANTIQUE EBONY AND SILVER CROSS

This is an old silver, Tuareg Croix du Sud.

Ebony wood forms the base for a cross of engraved silver. Small silver knobs decorate each arm and fasten a garnet at the centre.

A necklace of handrolled strands of goat leather is threaded through copper loops at the top of the cross.

ENAMELLED BERBER CROSS

This is a nice example of a new Croix du Sud with well executed silver details.

Cobalt and gold enameling fills the the indentations and there are two tiny triangles of aquamarine enamel towards the top of the cross.

Almost all of the crosses on this page come with a multi strand leather thong necklace, with woven leather clasp, hand made by Touareg women.

OLD SILVER CROIX du SUD

An old Croix du Sud in silver which has become granulated over time. The cross shows considerable wear and was probably originally a component in a spectacular, much larger collar.

OLD BEADS WITH SILVER CROSS

An eclectic assembly of antique, old and fairly recently made beads is anchored by a small antique silver cross.

The majority of the beads are ebony inlaid with silver, others include malachite, red and lilac agate, cornelian and some cylinders of a silvery mineral. The necklace fastens with a threaded connector.
